'Letter from the Editor' written in my capacity as Editor-in-Chief
A collection of a editorials and a spread published in Activate during my time as Editor-in-Chief from August 2014 to August 2015.
Activate, which was first published in 1947, is Rhodes University's oldest independent student news publication. It has undergone name changes (from Rhodeo to Activate in the mid-90's) as well as aesthetic changes.
During our year in charge, myself and the Editorial Team decided to go for a creative take on journalism. This is because university and student media are the time and place where student journalists and young media minds are free to experiment, take risks and find their niche in a relatively safe environment. We wanted to encourage that aspect in order to make the publication fun and fresh for the media creators as well as the reader.
